Holendrecht Digital Twin Futurelab: Interactive Digital Twin and VR for Area Development in Amsterdam Southeast
The Holendrecht Digital Twin is an interactive Digital Twin by the Holendrecht Futurelab. This Digital Twin visualizes housing concepts for Holendrecht in Amsterdam Southeast, a place where innovation, community, dialogue, and circular thinking converge. The model shows how new ideas emerging from dialogues with young people are incorporated into the living environment and become directly visible in the design. This creates a picture of a strong and healthy community, with shared functions, public spaces, entrepreneurship, and amenities that can develop within the neighborhood in real time. You can literally walk through the future.
We are currently working on an extensive VR version of the Holendrecht Digital Twin. In this VR experience, you can walk through the neighborhood wearing a headset, see characters interact, and witness the dialogue unfold. This is how we live together.
The Digital Twin is built using Zayah’s parametric technology, allowing users to experiment with variables such as daylight, space utilization, and functions. We are currently training young people to familiarize themselves with the technology. Every adjustment immediately shows the impact on the design, making planning intuitive, visual, and data-driven.
This Holendrecht Digital Twin is part of a collaboration between Zayah, Futurelab, and Masterplan Zuidoost. Together, we are exploring how immersive technology, such as VR and a Digital Twin, can make area development more transparent and accessible. By linking design choices to real data, the twin helps shape future-proof, sustainable, and widely supported decisions.
