About Holendrecht
Origin of FutureLab.Holendrecht
FutureLab.Holendrecht began as a dialogue with housing seekers in De Kazerne in 2023. The urgency of housing for people from the community was central. From further work and dialogue sessions with young people, seniors, entrepreneurs, and involved civil servants, the plan emerged to establish a cooperative to develop dream scenarios. These scenarios focus on a living environment in which housing, learning, care, economy, and community are part of an integrated design.
Ambition
Holendrecht is emphatically more than a plan for a plot of land and a number of affordable homes. We are building a larger cooperative development project in which people learn to become co-owners of the future of their neighborhood. A district is emerging that not only offers a worthy place to its own local community, but is also an environment for entrepreneurship and pioneering, and can moreover serve as an example for further building a new urban practice.
How We Work Together
We are now working with a dedicated team of residents, seniors and young people, entrepreneurs, and civil servants. In close collaboration with municipal teams and partners, the project is taking shape step by step. Within this collaboration, we are training people from the community in the development process while simultaneously working on a cooperative housing trajectory. Neighborhood experts and technical experts learn from each other.
Tech & Innovation
The first scenarios for Holendrecht have been visualized in a 3D impression and a digital twin by ZAYAH BV. Together with this startup, we are developing AI applications that make preconditions, costs, and choices per scenario immediately visible, accessible, and editable. In this way, technology supports a powerful renewal, in which local and professional knowledge come together in the design.
